6 Ways A Barn Door Can Modernise Your Home

Article Posted On: 02/11/2017

With the abundance of renovation shows, interior design blogs and Instagram feeds dedicated to showcasing beautiful living there is no shortage of inspiration for making a few changes to your home. With an upsurge in mid-century modern features becoming a prominent theme we thought what better way to showcase how our barn doors can be used to modernise your home.

1. Space Saver

A key feature of modern interior design stems from the clean understated spaces. Traditional swing doors tend to take up a lot of space when open and render a room disjointed, especially when it comes to bigger doors. Barn doors come on sliding tracks and thus regardless of being open or closed, they help to maintain clean lines with your interior design.

2. Transforms Living Spaces

A beautiful example of modern living is incorporating an open floor plan to join one space to another. A barn door can help expand and transform the spaces separating two living spaces. Barn doors are quite an easy installation and don’t require a complete renovation to mount and will open up the adjoining spaces with a simple statement piece.

4. Outlives Cavity Sliding Doors

You may have seen cavity sliding doors amongst houses which have tried to save space with sliding door features, however the disadvantage of cavity sliding doors is that after a few years they tend to get stuck. This is due to the internal tracks inside the wall getting stiff and clunky over time, and as the hardware is installed inside the wall it cannot be easily accessed for maintenance.

5. Selling Point

As a design feature, a Barn Door is a great selling point. In an episode of ‘Love it or List It Australia,’ the Morningside Makeover on an old Queenslander showcased how a barn door can help create join and also separate spaces to either make a more breathable open area, or simply hide away a room without feeling closed off.
